Google Barrow Street Lighting Upgrade

In late 2020, Waveguide carried out an Internal Lighting, Site Lighting and Emergency Lighting Upgrades in Google, across three exceptional buildings, linked by the Architectural Masterpiece, The Hyperlink Bridge, which spans between Google Docks, Gasworks and Gordon House, over Barrow Street, Dublin 4.

Googles Building Management System (BMS) had declared the emergency lighting systems at the end of life within the coming months. Due to the Working from home facility, google have in place with employee’s office spaces were vacant, allowing Waveguide to complete the works with minimum disruption to a live building in line with the Irish governments COVID-19 Guidelines.

The Emergency Light Fittings in the Toilets, Lift Lobbies and Stairwells both increase lux levels for ease of escape during emergencies, while reducing costs and emergency consumption at a significant level, thanks to the integration of The Dali System, benefiting hugely to the client, from a Health & Safety, Value for Money, and Reduced Carbon Footprint perspective.

We upgraded external site lighting from high consumption energy fitting, the 2x22watt fixture, to the PL Downlighter on the Google Docks Basement Ramp, to meet Building Regulations of Lux Levels for the provision of Basement Carparks. This also reduces an already significant running costs for the clients, on these lights, which are in operation continuously, due to their location.  The PL Downlighter fitting is ideal for such areas that require this extreme level of light due to their reliability and long lifespan of 80,000 hours. This area is flooded with Heavy Goods Vehicles both delivering and removing items to and from site daily, therefore light levels for Safety perspective of all involved is key.

Mackwells’ Signature Standard and Dali LD5’s as well as Pro LED’s 3watt Emergency Spot were both introduced across the 38 floors in these three buildings to reduce the number of different fittings used throughout, as on inspection, there were many different models used.

We have now removed all these different models and replaced with the LD5 & ProLED Spot to ensure maintenance and future upgrade works are both uniform and efficient, while ensuring adequate light levels being distributed evenly along the Fire Plan for ease of escape in the event of an emergency escape needed from the building.

The energy efficiency across this building has been greatly increased, with sensors installed instant lighting when there is activity in the area and throughout the building, also we must look at the energy savings perspective. When there is no activity in a room, there is no light which is both cost and energy efficient.

Waveguide worked in conjunction with our partners at Eclipse Controls to ensure all lights were commissioned in early 2021, when restrictions were lifted and works allowed.
